New Appraisal Classes Being Offered at RIAR

The Rhode Island Association of REALTORS® is pleased to announce three new Appraisal Continuing Education courses to be offered in the near future. The instructor, Mr. Joseph Accetta, has many years of appraisal experience. He is well-known throughout the Appraisal community for his skill and expertise.

Convincing Tax Abement Appraisals, (3 CEH) May 24th, 9 a.m. - noon

The course is designed to develop the students’ comprehension of: Definitions relative to a real estate transaction; the role and purpose of the Mass Appraisal Company; the role and purpose of the Tax Assessor; the role and purpose of the Tax Board of Review; a Superior Court Appearance; how to examine the appraisal problem; how to prepare an appraisal report for a tax appeal hearing; and what is necessary to make a convincing appeal to the Mass Appraisal Company, the Tax Assessor, the Tax Board of Review, and/or Superior Court.

Course fee: $40 member, $65 nonmember

The Economics of Property Values, (3 CEH) May 26th, 9 a.m. - noon

This course will review the Three Approaches to Value: Sales Comparison, Income Approach and Cost Approach. The methods and how they work as well as the economic principles that apply to these methods will be covered. Also, the relationship between the economic principles and the retail value will be covered. A class exercise will conclude the class.

Course fee: $40 member, $65 nonmember

Multiplier Madness, (4 CEH) June 2nd, 9 a.m -1 p.m.

This course will illustrate how the use of the IRV formula and the GRM analysis can assist real estate appraisers and real estate agents to develop market value estimates for small income properties. These formulas are indispensable in appraising Broker Opinion letters on small income properties and are tools that appraisers feel comfortable using.

Course fee: $50 member, $75 nonmember
