BURRILLVILLE – Louis “Lou” D. Berthod, 75, of Spring Lake, Glendale, died July 26, 2010 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Nancy L. (Edge) Berthod.

Born Sept. 24, 1934 in Woonsocket, a son of the late Pascal and Nancy (Guerra) Berthod. A star outfielder for Woonsocket High School, he played for the US Army in the 1955 Third Army Baseball Championship for Ft. Bragg, N.C. He played professional baseball with the Chicago Cubs farm system before entering the Army in 1953. He was a US Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Lou worked as a meter reader, then an appliance salesman for 21 years for Blackstone Valley Electric Company. He also worked as a realtor prior to forming Berthod Realtor and Assoc., which he owned for 25 years. For the last several years Lou worked part-time for Coldwell Banker.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, Anthony, Michael and Bruce Berthod of Burrillville; a daughter, Deborah Lozy of No.Smithfield; a brother, Anselme Berthod of Florida; a sister Grace Paul of Florida; 8 grandchildren and one great-grandson.

He was the brother of the late Armando J. DiGorgio.

His funeral will be held on Friday at 8:30 am from the Egidio DiPardo and Sons Funeral Home, 75 Harris Ave., Woonsocket with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in Our Lady of Good Help Church, Victory Hwy., Mapleville. SHEIN, PEARL, 72, of 77 South Angell Street, Providence, died peacefully on July 21, 2010. She was born April 15, 1938, in Providence, Rhode Island, the daughter of the late Abraham Horvitz and Rose (Gershkoff) Horvitz.

She leaves her husband, F. Richard Shein of Providence, her daughter, Rachel Shein and her husband Steven Pilarski, and their children, Spencer, Zachary and Sophie of San Diego, California. She also leaves her daughter, Jane Noel and her husband, Michael Noel, of West Greenwich, Rhode Island, and their children, Christine and Viola. She is survived by her brother, Paul, and his wife, Carol, of Houston, Texas, and her sister, Deborah Horvitz, of Pascoag, Rhode Island.

Pearl graduated Boston University in 1959 and went on to teach at Johnson & Wales College. Artistic in many media, she owned and operated a needlepoint shop specializing in custom design for 12 years. Pearl was instrumental in the execution of the Rhode Island Heritage Rug for the Providence Preservation Society, and a docent for both the RISD Museum and the Rhode Island State House. For many years she took great pleasure from her memberships in two book clubs and the Handicraft Club. She was known for her ready smile and irrepressible good humor, which was often irreverent. Pearl had a deep and abiding appreciation for all of life's gifts. She reveled in her good fortune-a happy marriage of almost fifty years, a precious family of which she was very proud and so many wonderful friends. During her last few months she held them all in her joyous embrace.

Her funeral service will be held on Friday, July 23rd at 10:00 AM in Temple Beth El, 70 Orchard Ave., Providence with interment in Sons of Israel and David Cemetery, Providence. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of your choice. Shiva will be observed at her late residence on Fri following interment and on Sun and Mon 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Providence - Krista Weller-Burns, our cherished and beloved Angel, died peacefully at the young age of 36, on Monday evening of June 7th 2010. Her passing was lamented by the comforting presence of her closest family who sang words of love and offered prayers for her ascending soul. Krista will be deeply missed and forever present in the hearts and minds of her loving husband, family and many friends.

Krista was devoted to her family and friends and her loving husband Brendan, step-daughter Samantha, sister-in-law Jessica and brother-in-law Andrew who all brought cheer and joy into her life. The recent arrival of a nephew and niece, Zachary and Caroline, increased her joy and hence she was to adopt a new name, Aunty Kiki. Krista was the beloved granddaughter of Louis and Evelyn (Vennettillo) Cataldi and Betsy (Stannert) Weller and the late Frederick Weller.

Calling hours, for those who wish to visit the family and say their own private prayers, are on Friday, June 11, 2010 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick. MORSE, LARRY E., 57, of 19 Rollingwood Drive, died Friday, 4/30/10, in the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center, Providence. He was the beloved husband of Lori (Grasso) Morse.

Born in Providence, a son of the late Stanley 'Babe' and Marilyn (Kaufman) Morse, he had lived in Johnston for 5 years, previously residing in Exeter.

Throughout his life Larry founded several successful businesses, including Advanced Marketing, Inc., Docu-Print, Inc., Morse Graphics and The Larry Morse Group (Spencer Cole Realty). In addition to being a successful entrepreneur, Larry was very active in the small business community. Some of his accomplishments include: being elected as a Delegate to the 1995 White House Conference on Small Business, co-founding the Rhode Island Small Business Alliance and serving as its Chairman until 2007. In 1997, Larry was appointed as the first Rhode Island Representative on the National Small Business Regulatory Fairness Board for the New England Region. In 2002, he was the recipient of the Rhode Island SBA District Directors Award.

Larry was an avid hobbyist, and over the years enjoyed life as a small aircraft pilot, fisherman, boat captain, motorcycle enthusiast and falconer. He also loved to spend time with his friends and family. Everything Larry did in life was done with a passion and fervor, always committing and dedicating himself fully.

BIERNACKI, JOSEPH J. JR., 65, of Woonsocket died peacefully on Tuesday April 27, 2010. He was the husband of Vera (Martinelli) Biernacki.

Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Joseph J. Biernacki, Sr. and Louise (Abbatemat- teo) Biernacki. He was the stepson of Victoria Biernacki of Cranston.

Mr. Biernacki was a graduate of Roger Williams Junior College and worked in real estate and property management for 40 years.

Besides his wife and stepmother he is survived by his children, David Biernacki and his wife Patricia of Woonsocket, Stephen Biernacki and his wife Sussy Deleon of Cranston and Jesslyn Biernacki of Woonsocket; his grandchildren Amanda, Tara, Alexander and Cristina; his brother Karl Biernacki of LasVegas and was the brother of the late Mary Ann Guglielmo and Albert Biernacki.

SHACKFORD, EILEEN E., 88, of Smithfield, died Saturday, April 10, 2010. She was the wife of the late Hobart Wright Shackford, Sr.

Born in Cambridge, MA, a daughter of the late John and Gladys (Stimpson) McClintock, she lived in eastern Massachusetts before moving to North Providence in 1992 then Smithfield in 2004. She worked as a bookkeeper and accounts clerk. She was a member of Roger Williams Baptist Church.

She is survived by three sons, Hobart Shackford Jr. of Johnston, RI and his wife Ann, Carl Shackford of Kirkwood, MO, Kenneth Shackford of Beacon Fall, CT and his wife Susan, four grandchildren, Scott, Ann, Stacey, and Sandra; and a great-grandson, Daniel. FANION, MARK A., 32, formerly of Miller Street, Barrington, died peacefully at home in Weymouth, MA on March 5, 2010 after a two year battle with cancer.

Mark was a native of Barrington, RI, graduating from Barrington High School in 1995. Mark began his career as a Communications Professional with a degree in Mass Communications from Quinnipiac University in 1999. It was there he met his devoted wife of 8 years, Elissa L. (Jeffers) Fanion, formerly of Clifton Park, NY.

Mark went on to become a News Producer in Utica, NY and at WRGB Channel 6 in Schenectady, NY. He worked in communications and public relations at Fortitech in Schenectady. For the past two years, he was a Manager of Corporate Communications at Millennium, the Takeda Oncology Company in Cambridge, MA. Mark was an avid sports fan and an active member of many organizations including the Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity (Theta Iota Chapter).

Mark was a devoted and loving father, husband, son, brother and friend. He is survived by his wife, parents Kenneth G. and Jacqueline L. (Adams) Fanion of Seekonk, MA, beautiful daughters Lorelai and Evelyn; a loving brother, Jason K. Fanion and his wife Heidi and their children Soraya and Blaise of Barrington, RI, adored niece Caroline Jeffers of Houston, TX, and many supportive extended family, friends, and colleagues. DEL DEO, EVA MARINA (MOGATTI), 86, passed away on March 6, 2010, after a brief illness.

Born in Providence, she was a lifelong resident, most recently at St. Elizabeth's Court in Elmwood. Prior to her life as a wife and mother, she was the proprietor of Eve's Dress Shop, a clothing boutique located in the Kinsley Building in Downtown Providence. She loved the Rhode Island seashore and to travel, especially to visit her sons in New York and California. She was stylish, strong-willed and independent minded, and lived her life accordingly. She will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her son Robert Del Deo and his partner Andrew Murray of Providence, her son Frank Del Deo Jr., and his wife Dr. Amy DeMattia, and grandchildren, Lucy and Bennett Del Deo, all of New York City, and her former husband, Frank Del Deo, Sr. of Providence. She was one of four sisters: Anna (Mogatti) Colannino of North Providence, Gloria (Mogatti) Sarcione of Cranston and the late Inez (Mogatti) Sherman. She leaves three nieces, Gloria (Fusco) Fournier, Gail (Sherman) Danilowicz and Jane (Sherman) Murray, six nephews, Joseph Fusco, James Wilkie, Bernard Fusco, Dr. David Colannino, Joseph Sherman III, and Guido Sarcione.

ST. ONGE, EVA, D., 100, of Riverside, pictured here on her 100th birthday, passed from her loved ones peacefully on February 21, 2010.

Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Mary (Fer- reira) Cabral and the widow of J.R. Edward St. Onge. She was the mother of two surviving children; Jeanne McNulty Carter of Riverside and Ronald St. Onge of Smithfield and the late Edward A. St. Onge and Kenneth J.R. St. Onge, grandmother of nine, great grandmother of nine and great great grandmother of four. She was the sister of the late Adeline DesMarais, Charles Cabral Sr., Mary Sears and Lydia Geremia. She was the aunt of Robert Geremia and Diane DesMarais of Florida, Charles Cabral II of Jamestown and Michael Geremia of North Carolina.

In her younger years, Eva was a champion dancer of the Charleston and the Black Bottom, which were popular in earlier times. She was also an award winning bowler and an expert solver of crossword puzzles.

Eva was always known as an outstanding cook who was often consulted for her recipes which ranged over all the western cuisines. She was also skilled in sewing and embroidery and enjoyed movies, dining out and music.

In her later years, she enjoyed trips to the Azores Islands and Caribbean areas. She was the most generous of persons and always in a great and smiling disposition. She was loved and treasured by all who knew her. Her funeral was held on Thursday February 25, 2010 from W. SCOTTI, RITA ANGELICA, a prolific author who wrote popular works of both non-fiction and fiction under the name R.A. Scotti, died on Feb. 25 in New York City. The cause was cancer.

R.A. Scotti's books include the non-fiction titles Sudden Sea: The Great Hurricane of 1938; Basilica: The Splendor and the Scandal; Cradle Song; and 2009s Vanished Smile: The Mysterious Theft of Mona Lisa. Her earlier works of fiction include The Kiss of Judas, The Devils Own, The Hammer's Eye, and For Love of Sarah.

Rita Scotti began her writing career in her hometown of Providence, R.I., as a copy girl on The Providence Journal after dropping out of college. She came from a long line of journalists (her grandfather was editor of the Journal and later editor and publisher of The Providence Tribune), and after returning to college and earning a degree from Loyola University in Chicago, she worked as a feature writer for the Journal and then The Star-Ledger in Newark, N.J.

Ms. Scotti grew up in Providence, the daughter of Dr. Ciro and Rita Scotti, and went to grammar and high school at Elmhurst Academy, then part of the network of the Sacred Heart schools around the world. In New York, where she lived since 1967, she became an active member of the community surrounding Convent of the Sacred Heart on 91st Street.

A woman of vivacious spirit, independence, and caring, Ms. Scotti was known for her well-developed and spontaneous sense of humor. Her attire was always stylish, her demeanor lively. She loved a pun nearly as much as a gentle, facetious barb. She had the ability to take command of a situation and used that ability to help others find their way through difficult times. She was beloved by her family, friends and associates. She will be missed, but not forgotten.

Rita Angelica Scotti is survived by her husband of 42 years, Evans Chigounis of New York City; her daughter, Francesca, of Bronxville, N.Y.; five sisters, Maria Chapin of New York City and Hopkinton, R.I.; Paula Shevlin of Jamestown, R.I.; Elena Scotti of New York City and Southwest Harbor, Me.; Barbara Riehle of Washington, D.C.; and Alicia Scotti Mandel of Bronx, N.Y.: four brothers, Ciro Scotti III of New York City; Frank Scotti of Jamestown, R.I.; Peter Scotti of Cranston, R.I.; and Joseph Scotti of Jamestown: and 15 nieces and nephews. She was the niece of Alice Barry Dwyer of Providence and the sister of the late N. David Scotti of Providence.

Burial will be in Swan Point Cemetery in Providence. A memorial service will be held in New York City on a date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rita's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or The New York Public Library would be appreciated.

Lieutenant Colonel G. Bruce Hevenor (U.S. Army Ret), 84, formerly of East Greenwich, RI died peacefully in Warwick, on Thursday, February 4, 2010 after a lengthy illness.

Born in Newton, Mass., Mr. Hevenor is preceded in death by his parents, the late G.H.S. and Helen E. (Flaherty) Hevenor, and a grandson, David B. Jeffrey. He is survived by Phyllis L. (Carlson) Hevenor and their seven children, Kristina Giffin (William) of Aiken, S.C.; Gretchen Webster of Salem, Mass; Michael Hevenor (Rhonda) of Smithfield, R.I.; Mark Hevenor of North Kingstown, R.I.; Matthew Hevenor of North Kingstown, R.I.; Rebecca Renaud (Mark) of Coventry, R.I.; Laurie Dickinson (Patrick) of Geneva, Ill.; 19 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren; a sister Patricia J. Porter of Plaistow, N.H., nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Mr. Hevenor was a graduate of Boston University. He served honorably in the active Army for more than 20 years, retiring as Lieutenant Colonel. He served during World War II, training as a gunner on B-17 and B-24 airplanes. He was a paratrooper who served in the US Army 503 rd Airborne Infantry Regiment, 11 th Airborne Division, and 7 th and 6 th Special Forces Groups (Airborne). A decorated veteran, he served in Vietnam in 1967 and 1968, earning the Bronze Star with Valor.

Upon his return to the US, he served as Professor of Military Science and head of the ROTC Dept. at Providence College. Following his retirement from the military, Mr. Hevenor became a Realtor in the RI area, where he was Vice President and General Manager of Residential Real Estate for DeFelice Realtors. When DeFelice sold to Coldwell Banker, he became a manager with that company, retiring from Coldwell Banker in 1988, and became a majority owner with H.A. Stone in 1989. That company merged with Lancaster Realty and Prudential Prime Properties in the mid 90s, and Mr. Hevenor retained a majority ownership. The company was sold to DeWolfe in 2000.

A great believer in community support, Mr. Hevenor was a long time member of the East Greenwich Rotary Club. He also received special recognition for his more than 135 blood donations totaling more than 18 gallons of blood.

Relatives and friends are invited to Visitation Monday, from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm and Tuesday, from 10:00 am - 11:00 am with a Funeral Service to follow at 11:30 am in THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Route 5, Warwick (Exit 12A on I-95). Burial, with military honors, will follow in R.I. Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. HENDERSON, ROBERT 'UNCLE BOB', age 79, of Mauran Ave., died peacefully surrounded by his loving family at RI Hospital, Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010. He was the husband of the late Cynthia F. (Rich) Henderson.

Born June 7, 1930, in Providence, he was a son of the late Ira and Julia (McCallum) Henderson and lived most of his life in East Providence. Mr. Henderson proudly served with the US Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was a retired truck driver with the Teamsters Local #251, driving for St. Johnsbury Trucking for many years. He also worked at the Ciba Geigy Chemical Works in Cranston.

He is survived by his niece with whom he lived, Beverly Medeiros, a sister, Florence Sollitto of Warwick, and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Mildred Kelvey and Harold Henderson.

Ann FitzGerald Knowles, 64, of Narragansett, went home on Tuesday. She was the wife of Raymond Knowles.

Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Louis C. and Margaret (Devlin) FitzGerald. Ann worked in real estate for over 30 years in Rhode Island. She enjoyed family, friends and laughter, and participated in those things every single day of her life. Some of her favorite things were, talking to her daughter on the phone, going to New York City with her sister, beating her son in cards, sailing in Point Judith Pond with “The Girls” and spending time with her husband of over 41 years. She brought laughter into every moment of her life and into the lives of all whom she touched. To know her was to love her!

Besides her husband she is survived by two children, Audra Knowles of Las Vegas, NV and Chris Knowles of Hopkinton, RI; a grandson, Sky; two sisters, Eileen F. Dean of Warwick, RI, Lisa F. Roth of Wayland, MA; three brothers, Friar FitzGerald of Alexandria, VA, Paul FitzGerald of Colorado Springs, CO and David FitzGerald of Honolulu, HI.

There is no service planned but at her request there will be a memorial mass followed by a keg party when the weather warms.

DICKSON, HUGH D., 84, of Taunton and formally of Lakeville , MA and Warwick, RI, passed away November 24, 2009 at the Golden Living Center, Middleboro, MA after a lengthy illness. He was the loving husband of Constance W. (Marsden) Dickson.

Born in Syracuse, NY a son of the late Clark L. and Mildred A. (Jones) Dickson, Mr. Dickson was a salesman for the A.T. Cross Co. before retiring. He was a World War II Navy Veteran, avid golfer and sailor.

SLOCUM, GEORGE E., 83, of Greenwich Avenue, died Saturday, November 7, 2009 at The Philip Hulitar Hospice Inpatient Center of Providence. He was the husband of Hazel M. (Hulton) Slocum. Mr. and Mrs. Slocum had been married for 61 years. He was the son of the former Eugene A. and Marion C. Slocum.

Mr. Slocum established The Slocum Agency in 1949 and dedicated his efforts to building a company that provided outstanding professional Insurance and Real Estate services before turning the reins over to his sons in 1992.

He held the professional designation of Certified Insurance Counselor and was a member of both the National and Rhode Island Associations of Insurance Agents and the National and Rhode Island Associations of Realtors. He received numerous commendations for service to professional organizations, was a founding member of the former Warwick Congregational Church, and as past president of the Warwick Chamber of Commerce. Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Diane E. Wallace of Jamestown, two sons, Robert G. Slocum and Philip C. Slocum, both of Warwick.

Mr. Slocum lived in Warwick virtually his entire life, was a member of the class of 1944 at Aldrich High School and loved Pawtuxet Village and Narragansett Bay. He enjoyed many hobbies and interests, but his passions were his family, his close friends, and his business.

He was a Naval Veteran of World War II, serving at stations throughout the United States and the Pacific. Mr. Slocum was a member of Harmony Lodge # 9 F & A M.

His funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at 10:00 am in THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Greenwood, Warwick (Exit 12A off I-95), followed by burial in Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm.

Victoria Sousa, 12 yrs old, daughter of REALTOR® Catherine Sousa of Harper, Ramos & Sheridan, passed away unexpectedly this past Monday. RI health officials have confirmed that she had been infected with the H1N1 Virus.

Victoria, a 7th grader at St. Philomena's School where she was on the school's soccer, basketball and cross country teams. A gifted athlete, Victoria began playing soccer in the Bristol Youth Soccer Association when she was five years old. She had played with the town's traveling team, winning the RI state championships in 2008. Her team went on to win the prestigious 'Super Liga' in 2008 and 2009. In 2009, Victoria was selected to join the RI Olympic Developmental Soccer Program. Victoria was chosen to be Little Miss Fourth of July in 2006. Victoria was also a member of the Bristol Yacht Club. She cruised with her family on their Pearson 35 'Sophie' from the age of six-months.

Victoria was the Grand-daughter of REALTOR® Dorlores Splaine and Niece of REALTOR® David Splaine of RE/MAX Professionals.

The wake will be held on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the William J. Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 8 Schoolhouse Rd., Warren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 330 Wood St., Bristol.

Maralin Rose Bohannon Poth, 80, of Ponce Inlet, FL passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, October 8th, 2009.

She was born on June 26th, 1929 in Moberly, MO to Frederick and Sophia Bohannon. Maralin is survived by her husband of 62 years, William H. Poth; children: Christine Tanner of Narragansett, RI, Nan and Sam Bland of Martinsburg, WV, Michael and Jackie Poth of Wagener, SC; granddaughter, Cortney Poth Neel and her spouse, Scott Neel of Columbia, SC, Seth Miller and Drew Miller of Aiken, SC, Travis Bland and Shelly Bland; and great grandson, Canyon Bland of Martinsburg, WV. Maralin was preceded in death by parents, Frederick and Sophia Bohannon, siblings: Violet Moriarty, Frederick Bohannon and Maxine Garr Sanderson, all originally from Indiana.

A Funeral Mass in honor of her life was held Tuesday, October 13th at 11:00 A.M. at the Catholic Church of the Epiphany in Port Orange, FL, where the Poths have been long time parishioners.

Maralin was employed by Kings Daughters Hospital, Dr. Alec Wanger, Van Mater Real Estate, and Baker, Faircloth, Parkinson Real Estate in Martinsburg, WV. She was president of the Mother's Club in Lancaster, PA, a member of the Berk Mar Garden Club of Martinsburg, WV, the Ponce Inlet Community Center Board, the Women's Club of Ponce Inlet and the Halifax Women Club of Daytona Beach. She was an enthusiastic volunteer and participant in many Ponce Inlet Community activities. Maralin was an avid bridge player and member of several bridge groups in Lancaster, PA, Troy, PA, Martinsburg, WV and Ponce Inlet, FL. Maralin and Bill loved to travel and saw most of the world together. Maralin's biggest joy was having her children visit with her and each other, being with family and friends, walking the beach, and playing golf. She was a very talented seamstress and cross word puzzle master. Her family is most proud of her strength, determination to live; she always lived life to the fullest. Her eternal optimism was an inspiration to all who knew her.

Cumberland: Dumont, Paul E. Sr., 98, of Salvas Court. passed peacefully October 6th 2009, in the home he shared with his daughter-in-law Margie and son Richard. He was the husband of the late Courana R. (Pichette) Dumont.

Born in Three Rivers Quebec on May 30th, 1911. A son of the late Joseph H. and Maria (Baril) Dumont. Mr. Dumont was self-employed in The Bakery Service Industry, until his retirement in 1970. He was a member of Jacques Cartier Circle 8 and a communicant of St. Aidan Church for the past 31 years.

He leaves two daughters, Pauline Pyne of Attleboro, MA. Anne Marie Frerraro of Altamonte Springs FL, Six sons, Normand Dumont of Central Falls, George Dumont of Seekonk, Raymond Dumont of Central Falls, Roland Dumont of Pawtucket,, Paul Dumont Jr. of Seekonk, and Richard Dumont of Cumberland. 22 Grandchildren, 42 Great-Grandchildren and 4 Great-Great Grandchildren. He was the grandfather of the late Chad Dumont, Three sisters Lucille Paquette of Exeter N.H. Therese Girouard, and Jeanne Dumont both of Lincoln. He was the brother of the late Lucien, and Edward Dumont, Rose Girouard, Lillian Tetreault, and Yvette Plante.

His funeral will be held Saturday October 10th at 9am from the Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave, Lincoln with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Aidan Church, Diamond Hill Rd, Cumberland at 10:30am. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Pawtucket. Relatives and friends invited, calling hours Friday October 9th from 5-8pm.
